THE LAST BLOG

What a magical year it’s been in K1 Frog Class! It's gone so fast - I can hardly believe this is my last blog of the year.

Our little learners have blossomed from their first nervous, tearful days into confident explorers and curious inquirers, each growing in their own unique way. They’ve mastered taking turns, created vibrant drawings that tell their own stories, and filled the room with joy through silly songs and dances. From initially being nervous and unsure about speaking in circle time to raising their hands to answer questions... and then... stepping up and out as bold public speakers, their newfound confidence shines bright.

Following on from the popularity of Handa's Surprise, we continued with some more Story Sack exploration.

Ringo the Flamingo is an excellent tool for introducing concepts like empathy, kindness, and acceptance of differences. It also aligns beautifully with the growth of our K1 Froggies—transitioning from nervous beginnings to confident explorers who are learning to share, express themselves, and embrace their unique abilities. Ringo the Flamingo encourages discussions about how each child has grown in their own way, whether it’s through sharing, creating art, or speaking confidently in front of others.

Owl Babies – this book's straightforward, repetitive text, particularly Bill’s heartfelt “I want my mommy!”, is easy for our K1 readers to follow and preempt, while its simple but relatable illustrations capture their imagination. The story’s emphasis on facing fears and supporting one another mirrors the emotional and social milestones of our Frog Class children over the year.  It highlights their growth and experiences of overcoming worry, building resilience and becoming a tight-knit group.

No Room for a Baby Roo delivers a heartwarming and humorous story about sharing, boundaries, and the comfort of family. This ties in perfectly with how the children have made connections over the year and their overall emotional and social growth as young learners. It is also an ideal book for fostering discussions about friendship and boundaries.

And for a bit of rhyming fun to finish off the series, we looked at Animal Boogie.  Set in the jungles of India, it features six colourful animals—bear, monkey, elephant, leopard, vulture, and snake—each performing unique movements like shaking, stomping, leaping, or slithering. The book’s repetitive refrain “boogie, woogie, oogie” was a hit, and one that they repeated throughout the day. ๐Ÿ‘€

As we wrap up this wonderful first year of school, let’s celebrate the laughter, discoveries, and friendships that made this school year so special. Here’s to our K1 stars and the exciting adventures that lie ahead.

And here are the last two photo albums of the year.  Nothing really left to say apart from it's been a privilege to work with you and your children this year.

Have a wonderful summer.
