Building that Bridge

Image
Another two weeks have gone by in Frog Class, and again, so much learning has been taking place. Our " Bridge Building Think Tank Area"  has been an incredible success. The ideas, creativity, skills, and language that the children have demonstrated in their projects and discussions have truly amazed me. Just look at all the different ideas and designs below. We looked at different bridges from around the world and how they can be so different - Tower Bridge, London was a firm favourite! When observing children building bridges in a classroom setting, I noticed a range of behaviours and skills at play. Collaboration became more apparent as children started sharing ideas and responsibilities, which fostered teamwork and communication.  Some children explored their creativity and problem-solving abilities through their design ideas. The children explore various materials, discussing their properties. The construction process involves a cycle of building, testing, and modifying s...

Hey Water !

Here are the class albums from the last 2 weeks.  Please remember to take some time to go through them with your child . AM Class PM Class We’ve been exploring the water cycle, and with Hong Kong providing a few days of rain, clouds, and fog, it was the perfect time to dive deeper into this topic! I shared the book "Hey Water" with the class. The book has some wonderful and simple illustrations about a young girl as she discovers her environment and realizes that water is all around her. First, take them outside to look for signs of water, such as puddles, streams, or fountains, and discuss where the water comes from. You can also talk about the weather each day and how it affects our water—like how rain creates puddles ...

Exciting Learning Updates in Our Class

Dear parents and caregivers, I hope this message finds you well. Over the previous weeks, we enriched our understanding of the UOI "How the World Works" by focusing on numbers, counting, and the exploration of common materials, particularly paper. In the engaging story "数字藏猫猫" (Number Hide-and-Seek), children developed a strong connection between numbers and quantities. Through the interactive game "What's the Missing Number," they also strengthened their number sequence and recognition skills. During the following week, we connected this knowledge to everyday experiences. We read the story "叮叮当当杂货店" (Meimei's Grocery Store), where children role-played transactions, practicing their number skills and language usage in a fun, practical context. Additionally, we introduced the delightful number song "从一数到五" (Counting from One to Five) to help reinforce key vocabulary. We then shifted our focus to the exploration of materials, star...
